On Reviewing Sons of Anarchy

Since I was fairly little I have always enjoyed being a stubborn ass.

I´m the brown, four legged one in this analogy.

I´m the brown, four legged one in this analogy.

When I was a kid that entailed being mean to my baby sister (sorry sis!) and refusing to do stuff for my parents. In my advanced years this means continually choosing to not agree with the person I am talking to. It doesn’t matter what the subject is I just know that if the person says go right I want it to be left, no matter how incredible stupid left is. Continue reading

Wind in My Hair Grand Opening!

Hello internet!

After finding out that all the articles I wrote a couple of years back for the filmsite filmophilia.com were in danger of disappearing into the internet abyss I decided to gather them all together here on this blog.

But it wouldn’t do to just let them sit here and gather dust and so I’ve decided to take the opportunity and write about whatever takes my fancy. This might include reviews of films I’ve seen, TV shows I watch and books I read. Also plenty of random lists, fun features and silly stuff. Occasionally I might try and say something profound about what’s going on in the world, but lets not get too ambitious.

So below are my old articles and above there will soon be lots of other stuff that’s more up to date. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy writing it.

Keep on keepin’ on, stay classy and feel the wind in your hair.

xXx

Childhood Memories – My Girl

 My-Girl-Anna-Chlumsky

Another day, another new feature here at Filmophilia. Today we bring you Childhood Memories, where we re-watch films we loved as children and see how they stand up to the harsh light of adulthood.  First up: My Girl.

I loved, loved, loved this film as a kid. A bookish tomboy myself, I really identified with the main character Vada. I thought it would be really cool to live in a funeral home like her and I wished I could be as brave and outspoken as she was. Continue reading

Guilty Pleasures – Clue

When I was younger the board game Clue (or Cluedo as it was also known) was a major staple of most family gatherings and holidays. For those of you not in the know it’s a detective game where the players compete to be the first to solve the riddle of Mr. Black’s murder, naming the culprit, murder weapon and location of the dastardly deed. It was all very exciting and back in the eighties someone had the brilliant idea to make it into a film. It was the first film to be based on a board game, a trend that seems to be going through a revival now with Battleship coming out in May this year and talks of a Monopoly movie circulating Hollywood. The film wasn’t a massive success, not even making back its meager budget, but has since gone on to be rated 70% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes AND to be one of my personal guilty pleasures. I don’t know which would excite the filmmakers more. Continue reading

Childhood Memories – The Addams Family

When i was 12 I wanted to be Wednesday Addams. She was awesomely cool and mature, with morbid hobbies but unfortunately all we shared was an affinity for Shakespeare and the occasional torturing of our younger brother. Still, I was convinced that if she were real we would be best friends. Now that I’m all grown up and have (mostly) stopped torturing my brother, I no longer dream of going to class in a black dress and braids, but the Addams Family film and its first sequel remain among my favorites.
